Backing up all their hype escalating since 2006, the 3 guys from Northern Ireland, Gary Curran, Declan ‘Decky Hedrock’ McLaughlin and Gareth Donoghue who call themselves Japanese Popstars, have pulled off a debut LP that is a perfect snapshot of where we’re at in electronic dance music. As world-class djs and live performers, they understand all the tribes of dance and with shades of grimy nu-electro, electronic bleep, trance, groovy soulful house and ethereal folkronica, they’ve put together a dynamic set. The high profile collaborations with Robert Smith of The Cure, Tom Smith of The Editors, Jon Spencer, Green Velvet, Lisa Hannigan and James Vincent McMorrow boost their style with great vocal and lyrical substance for an album that surprises with each new cut. Check out cuts from Controlling Your Allegiance and check their tour dates this summer.

Dirty Vegas may have rode to fame on a Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial, but they’re certainly no one hit wonders. After two LPs Dirty Vegas and One and a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2003 for “Days Go By”, the trio separated for 3 years to work on their own projects and get a fresh perspective for Dirty Vegas. They came back together to work on music fresh with no deadlines, no pressure and no label and the result is an album full of their signature polished electronic sound with a harder rock edge, versatile enough for a bar in Brooklyn as well as any big room experience. The first two singles “Electric Love” and “Changes” have been heating up nightlife since February and the album is out now on their new home, indie stalwart Om Records.

Calling all connoisseurs of deluxe dance-pop, seductive electro anthems and gold-plated disco grooves, Andy Bell’s second solo LP has arrived. Non-Stop, co-produced and co-written by Andy Bell and Pascal Gabriel (S’Express, Ladyhawke, Debbie Harry, Kylie, Little Boots) is a lavish 10 track collection of exquisite dancefloor confessionals from one of the most acclaimed and beloved singers in British pop. The album features “Honey If You Love Him”, a duet with and written by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction and singles “Will You Be There” and “Call On Me”. Andy’s long-running partnership with Vince Clarke in Erasureremains very much intact, but Non-Stop gives Andy a chance to flex his more clubby electronic, soulfully glam wings.

On their third studio LP the courageous and outrageous quintet of Scissor Sisters pin down the perfect combo of their origins in the NYC downtown scene and the pop sensibility that propelled them into the global mainstream. Never straying too far from the all-inclusive magic of club music, Night Work poses the question, “What if the disco scene had flourished uninterrupted without the Aids Crisis and disco backlash? What would the music sound like?” With LP producer Stuart Price, they traced the roots up through the 70′s and 80′s, grabbing influences from Giorgio Moroder, Trevor Horn, Styx and George Michael for a dynamic collection of cleverly twisted, pop-rock and dance classics. It’s also fitting they used an iconic Robert Maplethorpe photograph as the cover to really bring the experience home.

“a return to Scissor Sisters’ dingier clubland roots, before the band became a chart topper in Europe and a cult favorite in the United States… It’s still fun, but it’s dirtier fun.” THE NEW YORK TIMES

With a little tweaking from some of his marquee dj friends like Tiesto, Gui Boratto, Carl Cox and Yuksek, Moby’s most recent, serene and introspective DIY collection Wait For Me now pushes the envelope on tough, techny, electronica with Wait For Me. Remixes! out May 18th. The album consisting of 2 discs; one of 12 individual remixes and the other an exclusive Moby dj mix, is filled with reworked versions from the critically acclaimed original LP released last year.Moby enlisted some of dance music’s biggest names for the project and it’s first single, the title track “Wait For Me” that is available for download here.

“Its always an honor to remix Moby. He’s a legend and a true electronic music pioneer. I chose “Shot In The Back Of The Head” because it was a track that I’d always enjoyed and connected to emotionally. I wanted to do something a little tougher and darker with the remix. I’m really happy with how it came out.” - Tiesto

“’Wait For Me’ instantly grabbed me with the piano melody and the melancholic atmosphere. I thought back to seeing footage from Moby playing my track ‘Shake It Down’ at Ultra Music Festival during Miami Winter Music Conference. So, I made a techy / melancholic rework / ‘Shake It Down’ type remix!” - Laidback Luke

In a world of indie bands dipping a curious toe into the baffling waters of electronic music, Delphic are post-dance futurist nostalgics from Manchester who have managed to fuse hypnotic beats and crisp electronics straight out of the underground with emotive indie-ness to emerge as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands. This young band, together only a year, is comprised of Richard Boardman, Matthew Cocksedge and James Cook who make all their music on their laptops before throwing live guitars, bass and drums on top with the intention of stitching their songs together into one continuous euphoric DJ set-like onslaught. It also helps to have a genius like Ewan Pearson (The Rapture, Ladytron, Tracey Thorn, Gwen Stefani, Goldfrapp) produce your LP. Check out singles from their debut Acolyte out June 29th and remixes of their single “Counterpoint” .

So we all know Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory are diving Head First into the big 80′s from their over-the-top, fun, first single “Rocket”. But beyond the big hair, shoulder pads and John Hughes films, is a decade ripe for some tongue-in-cheek Goldfrapp mining. The LP features 9 sugar-coated pop nuggets that borrow heavily from 80′s synth-pop and euro-disco and sound just a little bit dangerous channeled through Alison’s breathy purr. Cuts like “Alive”, “Believer” and “Shiny And Warm” make you wanna squeeze into those acid-washed skinny jeans and do something bad. Then album closer “Voicething” chills things out in classic Frapp cinematic loveliness. It’s a great thing to see these disco darlings at the top of everyone’s list again. Head First is out now. Enter the Head First contest here.
