So we all know Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory are diving Head First into the big 80′s from their over-the-top, fun, first single “Rocket”. But beyond the big hair, shoulder pads and John Hughes films, is a decade ripe for some tongue-in-cheek Goldfrapp mining. The LP features 9 sugar-coated pop nuggets that borrow heavily from 80′s synth-pop and euro-disco and sound just a little bit dangerous channeled through Alison’s breathy purr. Cuts like “Alive”, “Believer” and “Shiny And Warm” make you wanna squeeze into those acid-washed skinny jeans and do something bad. Then album closer “Voicething” chills things out in classic Frapp cinematic loveliness. It’s a great thing to see these disco darlings at the top of everyone’s list again. Head First is out now.
