Turning The Mind is the follow-up to James Chapman aka Maps’ Mercury Prize shortlisted debut We Can Create. Produced by Tim Holmes of Death In Vegas, it’s a psychedelic monster of a record that explores themes related to the human mind and the way certain stimuli, particularly chemical, can affect it. Most of the 12 cuts on the LP are blissed-out, electronic, dream-pop that float through themes of extreme mental states for some eerie sugar-coated confections. Chapman also turned to synthesized dance rhythms to aid him on his journey for an album that’s been embraced by DJs as well as indie rockers.
